112 NEMO VMS devices deployed to support Bulgaria’s fisheries modernization

CLS is continuing the deployment of its fisheries monitoring solutions in Bulgaria with the installation of 112 NEMO VMS devices on board small-scale fishing vessels. Implemented in partnership with the National Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture (NAFA), this project will enhance the monitoring of fishing activities while supporting compliance with fisheries monitoring and traceability requirements.Bulgaria

Bordering the Black Sea, Bulgaria relies on a small-scale fishing fleet targeting key commercial species such as sprat, turbot, anchovies, whiting and mussels. As the sustainable management of marine resources becomes an increasing priority, the Bulgarian authorities are investing in modern monitoring technologies to strengthen the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, improve the understanding of fishing activities and support the sustainable management of fisheries.

NEMO: a VMS device designed for small-scale fisheriesHarbor in Bulgaria

The 112 NEMO VMS devices will enable fishers to automatically transmit their vessel positions, helping them comply with regulatory requirements while improving safety at sea. Compact, rugged and solar-powered, the device provides reliable, continuous vessel tracking, including in areas where terrestrial network coverage is limited.

Specifically designed for small-scale fisheries, NEMO combines terrestrial and satellite communications to ensure continuous position reporting. The solution also includes features such as geolocation, alerts and secure position reporting, giving fisheries authorities greater visibility over fishing activities and contributing to the sustainable management of fisheries.

NEMO Through this project, CLS reaffirms its expertise in deploying fisheries monitoring solutions tailored to the needs of governments and fishing communities. With 112 NEMO VMS devices deployed in Bulgaria, CLS is supporting the modernization of Black Sea fisheries and contributing to the sustainable management of marine resources.
